▪ Ssangyong sold 10,771 cars in August globally, up 10.3% year-on-year
▪ Tivoli sells 5,000 units every month since April, expected to surpass 60,000 this year
▪ Ssangyong will carry out aggressive sales strategy including upgrading all SUVs to meet Euro 6
Ssangyong Motor (CEO Choi Johng-sik; www.smotor.com), part of the Mahindra Group, today announced that the company sold a total of 10,771 units in August 2015 – 7,517 units in domestic sales and 3,254 in exports.
Despite short working days due to summer vacation in August, its monthly sales rose by 10.3% compared to the same month last year based on the growing domestic sales boosted by the Tivoli, which has led the compact SUV market.
In the domestic market, the company continued to record the highest growth rate in the industry, up 45.7% from a year earlier and 37.6% on a cumulative basis over the same period last year.
The Tivoli, which has already sold over 26,000 units in the domestic market since its launch in January 2015, still witnesses strong demand from consumers helped by the newly launched diesel model. Its monthly contracts exceeded 7,000 and its back-orders surpassed 6,000.
Ssangyong expects that sales of the Tivoli will surpass 60,000 units by the end of this year since the company already achieved this year’s Tivoli sales target of 38,000 units by selling 5,000 units every month for five consecutive months since April.
In the overseas market, the company carried out aggressive strategies including shipments of the Tivoli diesel following the launch of the Tivoli gasoline, and it posted a great sales growth of 60% year-on-year in the Western European market. However, its exports showed a decreasing trend over the last year due to priority supply to the domestic market.
Ssangyong Motor, which has upgraded all lineups to satisfy the Euro 6 emission standards in the domestic market, will expand sales aggressively by strengthening promotion activities such as a celebration event for the Euro 6-compliant models launch in addition to the government’s temporary cuts to individual consumption tax rate.
Choi Johng-sik, CEO of Ssangyong Motor, commented, “The Tivoli has driven sales growth as the diesel-powered model has been launched successfully and the Tivoli’s monthly contracts surpassed 7,000 in August,” adding, “We will make efforts to further increase sales by upgrading all models to meet the Euro 6 standards from September this year.”
