Ssangyong Motor Rexton W makes a debut into Russia at the 2012 Moscow International Automobile Salon

▪ Ssangyong unveiled the New Premium SUV Rexton W and super-large flagship sedan
  New Chairman W.
▪ The automaker displays six vehicles in total including Korando C and Korando Sports
  along with the concept car XIV-1 in a 504㎡ showroom.
 
▪ Ssangyong made a contract for 160 thou. vehicles for the market until 2017 in 2010,
  and the sales record is expected to exceed the target.

Ssangyong Motor(President & CEO Lee Yoo-il; www.smotor.com), part of the US$15.4 billion Mahindra Group, announced on 29 Aug. 2012, that the company unveiled the Rexton W and New Chairman W to strengthen its product portfolio of Russian market and reinforce the corporate image at the 2012 Moscow International Automobile Salon.

The automaker presented the New Premium SUV Rexton W and New Chairman W for the first time in Russia at the press conference of the Moscow International Motor Salon 2012, which was held on 29.

The Rexton W(Export name : Rexton) is equipped with D27DT diesel engine and 5-speed e-Tronic automatic trans-mission from Mercedes-Benz. And Ssangyong Motor will market the new model highlighting cutting-edge 4WD technology and strong frame type body.

The New Chairman W was also unveiled at the press conference. The super-large flagship sedan with in-line 3.6 liter gasoline engine, which competes with world-class luxury sedans, is expected to not only foster its own brand value but also improve the corporate image of Ssangyong Motor, while making its first presence in the Russian market.

In addition, the concept car XIV-1(eXciting user-Interface Vehicle) is being displayed along with the above models. The concept car, which was displayed at the last Frankfurt Motor Show as a global-strategic model, suggests the direction for the next generation CUV of Ssangyong Motor and is shown in new pearl-white color.

The XIV-1 will be equipped with 1.6 liter engine and a number of innovative technologies including advanced ISG(Idle Stop and Go) technology. The concept car received huge attention from media and visitors thanks to for its harmonious combination of the traditional Korean silhouette and the modern curves, and its interior design maximizing its communication role.

Ssangyong Motor showcased a total of 6 models including key models such as Korando C(Russia Export name : New Actyon) and Kyron as well as the Korando Sports(Russia Export name : Actyon Sports) at the Moscow International Automobile Salon, which is being held at the Crocus Expo International Exhibition Center until September 9.

Ssangyong’s SUV models has steadily gained in popularity thanks to their high quality and product value in Russia where the vehicles are required to display high durability and suitability for off-road driving due to harsh Russian weather and road condition. Sales in Russia, the biggest overseas market of Ssangyong Motor, registered at a total of 22,690 vehicles last year, and it is expected to register at around 32,000 vehicles this year with 40 percent of increase.

Ssangyong Motor made a contract with Sollers to export 160,000 vehicles to Russia from 2011 to 2017, and has sold its vehicles through 115 dealers nationwide in Russian market. The automaker expects to exceed its sales target based on the robust sales of its main models such as the Korando C and Kyron.

Lee Yoo-il, CEO of Ssangyong Motor, commented, “Russian market is one of our key export markets and has even bigger potential,” adding, “We will establish a solid foothold through reinforcing product portfolio with the new premium vehicles.”
