▪ Ssangyong sold 11,489 cars in September globally, up 10.3% year-on-year
▪ Its cumulative domestic sales for first nine months exceed last year’s annual sales, up 39.8% from previous year
▪ Ssangyong will expand its global sales through diversification of overseas market and launch of Tivoli diesel
Ssangyong Motor (CEO Choi Johng-sik; www.smotor.com), part of the Mahindra Group, today announced that the company sold a total of 11,489 units in September 2015 – 8,106 units in domestic sales and 3,383 in exports.
Despite short working days due to the national holiday Chuseok, its monthly sales rose by 10.3% compared to the same month last year thanks to continuous robust sales of the gasoline and diesel-powered Tivoli.
In the domestic market, the company continued to record the highest growth rate in the industry, up 59.1% from a year earlier by actively responding to market change with the launch of Tivoli diesel and upgraded SUVs with a Euro 6 engine.
Its domestic sales growth rate has increased for seven consecutive months since February when its cumulative growth rate recorded an increase of 22.3%. The cumulative domestic sales rose by 39.8% compared to the same period last year and already surpassed the last year’s annual sales of 69,036 units.
The Tivoli, which has led the compact SUV market, sold 43,523 units on an accumulated basis since its launch in January 2015, based on monthly global sales of 5,000 units for six consecutive months.
The company’s exports still showed a drop, but cumulative decreased rate improved from 40% to 39% helped by great growth of 70% year-on-year in the European market thanks to the launch of the Tivoli.
Ssangyong’s total global sales from January to September 2015 almost recovered to the same level as the year before, registering 103,874 units, down 2.2% compared to the same period in 2014. Its sales have improved for seven months in a row since February when the company recorded the largest drop.
Meanwhile, Ssangyong launched the diesel-powered Tivoli and unveiled the long-bodied Tivoli’s production version concept car at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2015. The company is accelerating efforts to target the European market.
Choi Johng-sik, CEO of Ssangyong Motor, commented, “Our domestic sales growth rate continued to increase for the seventh month in a row and its cumulative sales exceeded a total sales of last year,” adding, “We will make efforts to further increase sales by diversifying the overseas market, and launching the Tivoli diesel in Europe.”
