▪ SYMC will focus on customer-driven ergonomic design, thereby demonstrating unrivalled emotional value

Ssangyong Motor (CEO Johng-sik Choi; www.smotor.com/en), part of the Mahindra Group, today announced that its new compact SUV Tivoli has won the most prestigious Grand Prize for its semi-bucket seats at the 15th Ergonomics Design Awards.

The Ergonomics Design Awards, organized by the Ergonomics Society of Korea, evaluates the ergonomic design of products under seven categories from the customer’s point of view. The categories include user convenience, efficiency, functionality, sensory quality, safety, maintainability, and price.

The Tivoli, Ssangyong’s global strategic model, is an innovative compact SUV with outstanding spatial utility and stylish design. The vehicle, boasting ergonomic design and best-in-the-class driving stability, has caused a sensation in the compact SUV market since its launch in January.

The awarded Tivoli’s semi-bucket seats adopt dual density pads and the Pullmaflex spring system, building on its ergonomic design. This ergonomic design has earned the Tivoli a reputation for optimal comfort and convenience while driving on the roads or taking curves. As a result, its sensory quality is maximized.

The Tivoli, highly praised for its wide interior space and utility in an initial product quality study conducted by J.D. Power, was once again highly recognized at the Ergonomics Design Awards for various factors based on its customer-focused design including seat comfort, convenient levers, unique quilt stitches, first two-stage ventilated driver’s seat and heated back seat.

Ssangyong has been recognized for its unrivalled ergonomic design capabilities since the company had won the first prize twice before for its Chairman H seats and Chairman W in the 1st and 11th Ergonomics Design Awards respectively.

Speaking on the award, Mr. Koo Jae-kwang, Managing Director of Daewon Kang Up Co Ltd., said, “The Tivoli’s seats are based on our 50-year-old know-how for automotive seats, partnering not only with Ssangyong but also with domestic research centers and colleges. The Tivoli’s seats are designed to offer unrivalled comfort and convenience in comparison with rival models.”

Mr. Lee Su-won, Executive Director of Ssangyong Motor Vehicle Engineering Center, commented, “We applied ergonomic design to the Tivoli from the initial development stage to fully meet customer needs in terms of driving convenience, sensory values and comfort,” adding, “The Tivoli’s seats, developed in close partnership with Daewon Kang Up, are critical to its wide interior space and sensory design. The seats will not only further enhance the marketability of the Tivoli, but also set a new standard for seat designing globally.”
