Ssangyong Motor’s domestic and export sales recorded 10,147 vehicles in September

Ssangyong Motor (President & CEO Lee Yoo-il; Ssangyong Motor explained that a 11.1% increase of sales compared to the last month was thanks to the increased number of working days and decreased back orders of some refreshed models.www.smotor.com>), part of the US$15.4 billion Mahindra Group, aannounced on Oct 4, 2012 that the company sold a total of 10,147 vehicles in September 2012 – 4,036 in domestic sales and 6,111 in exports including CKD, respectively.

Ssangyong Motor explained that a 11.1% increase of sales compared to the last month was thanks to the increased number of working days and decreased back orders of some refreshed models.

The domestic sales registered at 4,036 vehicles increased by 34.5% compared to the same period last year and 8.9% compared to the last month respectively, thanks to the positive upward trend in sales of refreshed models such as the Korando Sports. It is also the first time in two months since July that the company has sold more than 4,000 vehicles in domestic market.

The sales of the Korando C and Korando Sports increased by 7.8% and 9.1% respectively compared to the previous month, while the sales of Rexton W decreased by 4.3%.

Ssangyong’s exports stood at 6,111 vehicles with a 12.5 % increase from the last month thanks to the increased number of working days, and it is the first time in three months since June that the company has sold more than 6,000 vehicles for export. However, compared to the same period last year, the exports decreased by 6% due to sluggish global auto market such as deteriorating European economic depression.
Ssangyong Motor has expanded Car Allowance Rebate Program, which was introduced in July, to take the advantage of the specific consumption tax relief program which is a part of government’s stimulus package to boost domestic consumption. The company also plans to increase its sales by organizing various customer participation events.

Lee Yoo-il, CEO of Ssangyong Motor, commented, “The sales show positive recovery as the number of working days increased and the back orders issue from some assemble line has been solved,” adding, “Still there are difficulties such as economic depression in European market. However, Ssangyong Motor will expand its global sales through by differentiated marketing strategy and reinforced export product lineups.
